O eurodeputado do PAN perguntou \u00e0 Comiss\u00e3o Europeia (CE) se est\u00e1 a usar a sua influ\u00eancia, ao negociar um novo acordo de investimento com a Rep\u00fablica Popular da China (RPC), para que o pa\u00eds melhore os seus padr\u00f5es de direitos humanos, nomeadamente, que respeite a autonomia de Hong Kong e cesse a nova legisla\u00e7\u00e3o de seguran\u00e7a a ser for\u00e7ada nesta regi\u00e3o administrativa especial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Uma vez que a Comiss\u00e3o\nEuropeia (CE) est\u00e1 neste momento a negociar um extensivo acordo de investimento\ncom a China e reconhecendo que o Alto Representante da Uni\u00e3o Europeia para\nPol\u00edtica Externa e Seguran\u00e7a, Josep Borrell, instou a RPC a respeitar a\nautonomia de Hong Kong, Francisco Guerreiro questionou se esta institui\u00e7\u00e3o\npretende suspender essas negocia\u00e7\u00f5es caso a China n\u00e3o respeite os seus\ncompromissos internacionais em rela\u00e7\u00e3o \u00e0 Regi\u00e3o Administrativa Especial de Hong\nKong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cExpresso profundas\npreocupa\u00e7\u00f5es com a introdu\u00e7\u00e3o pelo parlamento chin\u00eas da legisla\u00e7\u00e3o de seguran\u00e7a\nnacional em Hong Kong. Trata-se de um ataque direto e intencional \u00e0 autonomia\nda cidade e da regi\u00e3o, Estado de Direito e liberdades fundamentais da regi\u00e3o\u201d,\ncomenta o eurodeputado.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hong Kong’s autonomy and the\nEU-China investment deal<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I express deep concerns about\nthe unilateral introduction by the Chinese parliament of national security\nlegislation in Hong Kong. This is an assault on the city’s and region autonomy,\nrule of law, and fundamental freedoms. The integrity of the principle \u201cone-country,\ntwo-systems\u201d is in real jeopardy. I am aware that Mr Borrell has already called\non the People’s Republic of China to respect Hong Kong\u2019s autonomy; however, the\npolitical, economic and judicial pressure of the Communist regime on the region\nis more and more dire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Therefore, and given the fact\nthat the Commission is currently negotiating an important investment deal with\nChina, I ask:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1.       Is the Commission using its economic\nleverage in these negotiations, urging China to improve its human rights\nstandards, respect Hong Kong\u2019s autonomy and halt the new security legislation?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Will the Commission consider suspending these negotiations, if China does not respect its international commitments towards the Special Administrative Region of Hong Kong?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
